Queen Elizabeth II’s 95th Birthday Sovereign Range

2021 Queen’s 95th Birthday 24 Carat Gold One-Eighth Sovereign BannerHer Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her 95th birthday this year on April 21st, making her Britain’s oldest reigning monarch. This, together with what has been an incredible 69-year reign so far, makes her quite a remarkable presence and one that Britain will rejoice and celebrate in April this year.

In 1947, Queen Elizabeth II married Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and the couple has four children: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. In 1953, Elizabeth was crowned and officially recognized as sovereign. Since then, the Queen has served in her role as the Queen of England, and in 2018, she became the first British monarch to reach a Sapphire Jubilee—a celebration to mark 65 years of her reign.

Commemorate the 95th Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

To celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s record-breaking reign and monumental 95th birthday this year, a brand new sovereign range has been minted. Introducing the 2021 Queen’s 95th Birthday 24 Carat Gold Sovereign Range.

This is the first time since 1839 that a new version of the iconic Una and the Lion design has featured on a gold sovereign, now with The Queen as Una. Inspired by Edmund Spenser’s poem ‘The Faerie Queene’, it was the young Queen Victoria who was first depicted as Una on the first gold £5 coin of her reign in 1839. Now, her great-great granddaughter Queen Elizabeth II appears as Una, side by side with the British Lion.

This is also the first time the Queen appears on both sides of the coin, in portraits by the same designer, talented artist Jody Clark. His name may already be familiar to you prior to this range, as he is the creator of Queen Elizabeth II’s current coinage portrait.

One final feature that makes this range so incredible, is that these coins have been produced in the highest purity gold possible – 24 carat – an astonishing 99.99% pure. This is owing to the unmatched significance of this event and the incredible milestone of a 95th birthday.

This new sovereign range has been authorised by Alderney, and approved by both the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Buckingham Palace. It is also limited to just 5,999 coins, and is subject to our Sell Out Guarantee, which means that availability of this coin will end on 31st July 2021. At that time, any coins that are unsold will be melted down and verified to that effect.
