This year is an important year for the Royal Family. In the same month as the Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the Queen, her grandson Prince William, our future king, also celebrates his 40th birthday, meaning multiple commemorations for the Royal House of Windsor.
Prince William turns forty on the 21st June, and his compassion and dedication are evident to all. Passionate about his roles in promoting mental health awareness, conservation and support for the armed forces, he carries out his official duties in support of the Queen with great charm and growing assurance. To celebrate this landmark milestone, a new series of sovereign coins have been produced to commemorate Prince William’s 40th birthday. Introducing The 2022 Prince William 40th Birthday Gold Sovereign Range, and in particular, the one-eighth sovereign…
What makes this range so significant is that these new sovereign coins for Prince William’s 40th birthday are the first time he appears alone, making them his first ever Portrait Sovereigns. Approval has seldom been granted for the use of Prince William’s likeness on the coinage. In fact, he has only previously appeared on coins issued for his engagement and wedding, and always alongside the Duchess of Cambridge. What a fitting tribute to Prince William on his birthday!
Gold sovereign coins are reserved for events of major significance and these new coins are no exception. It’s worth considering too, at some time in the future, Prince William will in all likelihood appear on sovereign coins in his own name, as monarch. At that time, these 2022 commemorative gold sovereigns will take on increased significance as the very first Portrait Sovereigns of Prince William, sitting at the very start of his own series.
It doesn’t just stop there either, what is also incredible about this range is that the release of these gold sovereign coins will support the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Airmen’s and Families Association, known as SSAFA, the armed forces charity, which provides lifelong support for our Forces and their families. 10% of all net profits on sales of these sovereigns will be paid in support of SSAFA; estimated amount £65,000. Like many members of the Royal Family, Prince William maintains strong ties to the British Armed Forces, with whom he served more than seven years full-time, including three years as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot.
The one-eighth sovereign’s design is a portrait of Prince William in his RAF uniform, with his royal cypher alongside. You can purchase the one-eighth sovereign HERE, or alternatively, you can contact our sovereign experts on 0333 234 3103.
