On Monday 19th September 2022, Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest. Her state funeral was the first held in Britain since Winston Churchill’s in 1965. The State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II marked the culmination of 10 days of national mourning, during which time the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force readied themselves to perform a role rehearsed over many years. It was a final act of dedication to their late Commander in Chief.

A new series of gold sovereign coins have been produced to mark the first anniversary of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, with designs that recall the military procession and State funeral with which this nation paid its last respects, to our greatest ever monarch. SSAFA – The Armed Forces Charity

Today, on 25th June, we celebrate Armed Forces Day; a day of recognition and support for all the men and women who form the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets. SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity is an organisation that has been supporting armed forces personnel and their families for over 130 years. With a volunteer network that reaches into every county in the UK, and 11 countries around the world, SSAFA is the UK’s oldest national tri-service Armed Forces Charity.

We are proud to be associated with them, and here, we take you through a short history and look at the work of this vitally important charity.

SSAFA, the Armed forces charity, provides welfare and wellbeing assistance to our Forces and their families. This is a charity which the late Queen Elizabeth II supported from the very start of her reign, taking her father’s place as Patron upon his death in 1952.

In recent years, even when Her Late Majesty was reducing her workload, she remained as Patron of SSAFA, actively supporting their work and retaining a keen interest in the people and families they helped.

This year is an important year for the Royal Family. In the same month as the Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the Queen, her grandson Prince William, our future king, also celebrates his 40th birthday, meaning multiple commemorations for the Royal House of Windsor.

Prince William turns forty on the 21st June, and his compassion and dedication are evident to all. Passionate about his roles in promoting mental health awareness, conservation and support for the armed forces, he carries out his official duties in support of the Queen with great charm and growing assurance.
