Description
Celebrate King Charles III’s 76th birthday with a special edition five pound sovereign coin that honours his deep commitment to the environment. These unique coins, called “Carolean Gold,” are the first in over 200 years of sovereign history to be minted entirely from 100% recycled gold, making them a remarkable tribute to the King’s lifelong advocacy for sustainability. Certified by the Sempsa Refinery, each coin uses only traceable, recycled gold, significantly reducing environmental impact.
The coin features 22-carat gold, just like every sovereign since 1817, but instead of newly mined gold, they are made from gold recovered from existing items like jewellery and coins. This process not only preserves the quality and purity of the gold but also has a far lower carbon footprint, aligning with the King’s dedication to protecting the planet. The design itself draws inspiration from the historic ‘Carolus’ coins of King Charles I, further connecting centuries of royal tradition.
The world’s first five pound sovereign coin minted from gold certified to be 100% recycled!
This five pound sovereign, the first ever to use fully recycled gold, marks a new chapter in the history of coin minting. With the same stunning appearance and craftsmanship as traditional sovereigns, it carries a powerful message of sustainability and responsibility. Although future recycled gold double sovereigns may follow, these will always stand as the first of their kind—an enduring legacy for King Charles III.
Authorised by Tristan Da Cunha and approved by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and Buckingham Palace, it is a wonderful tribute – we honour His Majesty’s significant birthday with a fully recycled gold sovereign coins.
