Predecimal coins were used in Britain for over 1,000 years! That incredible history came to an end fifty years ago: Britain changed from predecimal to decimal coinage in February 1971 but the very last ever predecimals were dated 1970. However, not ALL the pre-decimal coins of our Queen Elizabeth II’s reign made it to 1970 – some stopped production EARLIER than that – some in preparation for the changeover and others because they were being dropped completely from the coinage line-up.
This incredible set has all 11 different pre-decimal coins of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, and each one of them is the VERY LAST year-date! Last ever: gold sovereign, crown, halfcrown, florin, shilling (English lions), shilling (Scottish lion), sixpence, threepence, penny, halfpenny, and farthing coins.
And if that’s not enough, they are ALL in the highest quality issued for each coin!
